Activities and services of the Department of sanitary-hygienic work with environmental health

1. Estimation of the health-environmental risk related to the quality of drinking water and water supply as well as establishment of the health evidence for water supply.

Monitoring of drinking water and determination of the safety through

· Taking samples

· Bacteriological tests

· Physical and chemical tests

Sanitary reviews of the water supplying objects

Proposing measures for supplying the population with safe water

Making semiannual and annual reports

Making annual report for risk estimation of the safety of the drinking water and water supplying in the region.

2. Estimation of the health-environmental risk of the quality of the surface waters from public-health aspect in the Polog region (waters from the Mavrovo Lake, river Vardar, r. Radika, r. Penja, r. Bistrica, r. Belovishka, r. Bogovinjska).

3. Following the water quality for recreational swimming (recreational swimming pools) from health aspect.

Making semiannual and annual information for the hygiene state and quality of the swimming waters with measures for sanction and decrease of the health risk.

4. Estimation of the health-environmental risk of the hygiene quality of the air making analysis of the aero sediment.

Estimation of the risk of the hygiene quality of the air on the health of the kindergarten   and school children in the town Tetovo and villages.

Following the condition of the ambient quality of the air and health environmental risk through monthly reports from the automatic monitoring station.

 5. Following the safety of nutrition and under nutrition for particular population groups


Following the safety of the nutrition with taking food samples (microbiological and chemical analysis) and estimation of the hygienic conditions with professional control, taking smears from dirty equipment, kits, containers, working surface, hands and everything else  which in the process of preparation touches the food in the kindergartens, schools as wells in school dormitories.

Following the safety of the food in hospital conditions (bacteriological analyses, smears for the cleanness of the surfaces).

Following the biological quality of the nutrition for the children in the kindergartens and schools

Following the nutrition quality of the food in the hospital.

Following the nutrition quality of the children’s diet in the kindergartens and schools with aim to determine the average input of nutrition in this population group the daily meals are analyzed prepared in the food objects. According to the given results compared with the registered standards for each population group the analyses is made and estimation of the quality and eventual irregularity of the diet.

The following of the nutrition status of the kindergarten children and children in the schools (in the representative example of children: 4-5 years, I and V degree, 1st year in the secondary school) it is measured height and weight, scope of the humerus and waist measurements.  The data is software worked with methodology according to the recommended standards for growth and development of WHO (World Health Organization) and IPH (Institution for Public Health) Skopje, it is estimated nutrition status of the population group together or each separately.

Making of quarter reports for the estimation of nutrition and risk of under nutrition.

6. Making agreements with customers for making analysis of: food, water, subjects for common use, smears for cleanness.

7. Taking samples for the needs of the customer or Food Agency or the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate.

8. Giving professional opinions and analysis of the sample.

9. Following the hygienic and health-ecological conditions in regard of the sewage and solid waste, suggestion of measures for overcoming public health problems.

10. Following the quality of the water in the swimming pools

11. Making obligatory health and hygienic reviews (previously periodic and emergency) on employees in the institution for:

· Primary, secondary and other education

· Education, taking care and reaction of children

· Health workshops (medical staff) and other staff employed in the medical institutions

· People in manufacture and trade of food and water supplying

· People employed in the beauty salons (hairdressing salon, cosmetician, masseur) relaxation and recreation.
